July and August are the region's most crowded months. You'll have the beaches pretty much to yourself in June and September, although the water is much cooler than during high season. If you're interested in touring the villages and historic sites—and if you've never been to a camel-wrestling match—plan your trip from December through March, when flights and accommodations are inexpensive and camels are competing throughout the region. How Much Time Do You Need? Given the distances involved and the wealth of alluring sights, ideally, you would need 10 to 12 days to thoroughly explore the region. As a general rule of thumb, if you want to make a lot of stops, it makes more sense to tour as you go along, as driving back and forth between base cities and sights can be tiring. If you are pressed for time, it is best to head straight for Izmir or Selçuk—making either city the base from which you can take in some of the main sights nearby. If you're traveling by car, be sure to leave time to stop and stay in the smaller towns along the coast. ....
