| | Overview (Source: Frommers) | 34km (21 miles) N. of Budapest Just past Szendendre along the Danube, sits this historic and lovely little town full of trees and wonderful little streets to explore. It dates back 9 centuries, but I have to admit, that it took me 6 years and the writing of this book to explore this little beauty outside of Budapest. According to legend, there was a monk hermit, Laszlo, who lived in the forest in what is now known as Vác. He prophesied that Prince Géza would win the battle against King Soloman. The prince and the monk came upon a wondrous sight, a deer with candles on its horns. After seeing this, Géza decided to establish a church on this site making it a bishopric, Vác.
